FALL SPORTS BANQUET FOR HIGH SCHOOL & MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETIC TEAMS

Please join us in celebrating the accomplishments and hard work of all our athletes and coaches
during the fall athletic season.

The first organizational meeting of the Oxbow High School Booster club will take place on Friday November 21st in the high school library at 6:30pm. The Oxbow High School Athletic Director will explain the mission and objectives of the organization. Election of booster club officers will also take place. This organization is open to any parent of a student attending Oxbow High School. If you are interested in attending, please contact Director of Athletics Rich Thornton at 222-5214 x158.

Oxbow High School Booster Club Mission

The Oxbow Athletic Booster Club is a non-profit organization, made up of parent volunteers whose mission is to support and generate funds used to support our programs. The funds raised will be used in a variety of ways to support the Oxbow High School interscholastic athletic teams. Funds raised by the boosters could support items such as the purchase of uniforms, expenses for coaches to attend clinics, facility upgrades, sending student-athletes to the annual VPA Leadership Conference, and much more.

Boys and Girls club meet in the cafeteria after school today.
All 7th grade TAs should go directly to the aud. this morning.
Students and Staff – the $50.00 yearbook is almost a thing of the past. With the Thanksgiving recess quickly approaching students and staff are reminded that if they wish to purchase a 2009 yearbook for the $50 price they must do so soon. The price of the yearbook will go to $55.00 when we come back from the break.
Seniors who have not turned in anything for your senior page please see Mr. Bishop today.
Tuesday November 25 at 10:35, the Balfour Ring representative will be here to deliver class rings. Students should plan on bringing in the remainder of their payment at that time. Please be sure to see the rep at that time.
10th grade class meeting on Friday, Nov. 21. pd. 7 in the aud.
Animation Club will meet briefly Monday after school to make story boards for the movie. 2:30 in Mr. Wightman's office, room B-Zero.
Dance this evening from 6:00-10:00 admission is $5.00.

Athletics Announcements:

Oxbow HS Athletic/Extracurricular
Eligibility Policy

1. Athletes will not be eligible for a season if:
a. He/She has one or more failing grades from the marking period (quarter) prior to the season (No pass, no play)
b. He/She fails a course in the middle of a season.

2. Students must carry the equivalent of five credits

3. Athletes failing one or more courses from the final marking period (fourth quarter) are not eligible to participate in the fall sports season next year.

4. Athletes becoming ineligible for a season may regain eligibility for the next season providing all courses have been passed.

The athletic/extra curricular committee is in the process of evaluating our existing eligibility policy. The committee has gathered policies from other school within our area for comparison to ours. The committee would also like to solicit comments from Parents, community members and staff regarding our existing policy. These comments can be sent to the Athletic Director, Rich Thornton at rthornton@oxbowhighschool.org

Please send comments prior to November 14th 2008. The committee will take these comments and information received from other schools and create a draft of an updated policy. We expect this process to take three to four meetings. Once the draft is completed it will be presented to the Oxbow community for comment.

Comments will be received through a public forum sometime late February early March 2009. The committee will then consider comments from that forum and revise the draft policy and then have another public forum to discuss the revisions. If the committee deems the process complete it will be forwarded on to the board for formal policy adoption. We understand there are many points of view regarding this policy and encourage everyone to send an email and participate in the public forum.
